Maple Street Shelter
Overview
Maple Street shelter is a homeless shelter located at the end of Maple Street. It is in an area zoned as Tidal Plain and thus covered by Measure W.
Measure W's Impacts
Just based on pubic information, it seems that this shelter is an independent non-profit organization which is leasing the land and possibly the facility from the county. Since county law trumps city laws, the impact to the current use of the facility from Measure W would be minimal. The land itself will be impacted, as its value will would most likely decrease as future non-county, non-open spaces uses would be substantially limited. What this means is that the county would have difficulty selling the land in the case of a surplus sale. Furthermore, the status of any new permitted improvements would be clouded as those improvements may possibly not be able to be passed on to the next owner in the case of a sale, if the new owner wishes a non-open space use. To our knowledge, we have not heard of any current or expected offers of sale of this property, although the Blomquist extension may pass very near to this facility.
