Measure V is NOT the Developer's Initiative
According to the door hanger collateral Save the Bay distributed in late August, it states that Measure V is the “Developer's Initiative.” As discussed on this page, they seemed to have dropped their claim that Measure V is not legal. We speculate this new assertion is based on a polling showing their core base has a visceral negative reaction to the word "'developer." One small problem, nobody is supporting Measure V except us – homeowners and residents affected by Measure W.
None of the Major Campaign Groups, Supported by Developers, say 'Yes on V'
At this time, no developers support Measure V. Take a look at all campaign literature as of end of August. The answer is in all Developer-sponsored campaign material. Their focus is "No on W," not "Yes on V." Measure V is the "Affected Residents' Initiative." We and a dozen other affected residents aired our concerns during City Council meetings and asked the Council to do something.
Measure V Impedes Cargill and its Developer, DMB
Measure V throws a very specific hurdle on any new development project Cargill plans for the saltflats, a vote. This does not help Cargill. Therefore, the misleading statements on Measure V somehow helps Cargill have no basis. This is another spin Save the Bay uses instead of facts to support its cause.
Measure V: The Residents' Initiative
Measure V was created by the Redwood City Council to address affected homeowners and residents’ pleas. Measure V grew out of City Council's asking Save the Bay to sit down at the table and fashion a measure that meets their concerns while not creating such massive 'collateral damage'. To see this unfold, just look at the videos of the City Council meetings (see Redwood City Council). As Measure V started to take shape over several Council meetings, Save the Bay repeatedly refused to participate.
Measure V is the “Residents' Initiative.” We, the affected residents asked for it, the City Council gave it to us. There are no campaign funds to support it as the City is prohibited by law to campaign on this. No developers support this initiative. In particular for Cargill, it impedes their ability to build. We, the affected homeowners, are contributing time and money of our own to generate awareness for Measure V.
